SNIA South Asia expands vendor-neutral education for storage to Malaysia
By SearchStorageAsia Editors | Mar 1, 2010
The Storage Networking Industry Association for South Asia (SNIA SA) has formed a new chapter in Malaysia.
Until now, demand for educational content were mostly from Singapore, but with emerging economies and a rapidly increasing interest in storage technologies, there has been many requests for representation in other countries, particularly Malaysia.
IDC have predicted that ICT spending in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), will grow by 7.7% over 2010, and with no obvious slowdown in the volume of information being stored, SNIA felt it to be the perfect opportunity to advance its mission by expanding the availability and awareness of data storage technologies.
The formation of the new chapter in Malaysia will enable customers in Malaysia to have access to SNIA’s storage standards and best practices as well as a comprehensive library of vendor neutral, educational white papers and presentations on all storage related technologies. In addition, the Malaysian chapter will introduce storage training and certification to the region through the SNIA Storage Networking Certification Programme (SNCP).
“We are seeing increased demand for our services from storage professionals in Malaysia who need a better understanding of the technology but would prefer not have a vendor bias” says PK Gupta, Chair of the SNIA South Asia. “SNIA is the only source of such knowledge. We will be the primary source of vendor-neutral education for South Asia”.
Heoh Chin-Fah, Technical Director at Real Matrix Sdn Bhd was instrumental in the development of SNIA Malaysia, and is seeking to expand the new chapter’s membership numbers.
