Multi-million errors despite IT automation technologies

A single IT error has the potential to cost a company millions of dollars, according to a Forrester survey comissioned by BMC Software.
The study polled 472 IT decision makers in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific to gain insight into job scheduling trends.
Survey results found that despite companies' drive to embark on IT automation to improve efficiency and avoid manual errors, some 90% of organizations polled reported major problems with using multiple automation technologies. These problems include critical job failures, file lossess and excesses manual intervention.
Other survey highlights:
• 75% of respondents reported workload automation can reduce manual efforts and errors.
• 73% said that workload automation has a significant impact on business user satisfaction.
• Addressing the growing demand for business to have more control over projects without requiring IT personnel resources, 55% view end-user self service to be an important or critically important workload automation feature.
• 69% percent of those who have used workload automation said it has freed up the time of at least two full time employees. Seventy percent said they have freed up the time of ten or more people.
• The efficiency afforded by workload automation is key, as 63% indicated plans to support or implement new technologies while 50% aim to drive innovation with new IT or business service offerings this year.
