A total of 23 awards were presented in this year's IT Inspiration Awards, representing a mix of industry excellence and personal achievement across 5 categories.

The winners were announced in conjunction with the Hitachi Data Systems’ annual Asia Pacific CIO summit, an event that brought together IT leaders, global thought leaders and brave innovators into a single venue to examine in detail what market recovery means to businesses and IT.

The CIO summit also drew attention to areas that organizations around the region should look to, to succeed in the anticipated economic upturn.

The spirit of the awards and the CIO Summit is captured succinctly by Kevin Eggleston, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Asia Pacific, Hitachi Data Systems: “The year 2009 might well prove to be a litmus test for the long-term success of a business organization. The economic crisis is a wake-up call for businesses to streamline business process and build competitive advantage using technology. The Inspiration Awards and the conversations generated at our CIO Summit pave the way for companies to build a sustainable business enterprise that can weather any storm.”

Encouraged by the positive response of last year, the IT Inspiration Awards 2009 has set an industry standard for excellence and generated enthusiasm from blue-chip companies and the IT community in Asia Pacific. Entries meeting the eligibility criteria were judged by a panel of qualified judges from Hitachi Data Systems, IDC and Gartner. The award finalists are posted on the IT Inspiration Award Website (www.hds.com/apac/itia) and public voting for the winners in each category started on August 17, 2009 and closed on October 16, 2009.

There were altogether 133 nominations from 70 countries in the Asia Pacific region. The nominations were also published online and users were invited to vote for their most inspirational deployment – more than 3,000 votes were received. Based upon the results of public voting and the judging panel, the award recipients were announced on November 11, 2009 at the IT Inspiration Awards Finale Ceremony.
